Yeah, I don’t remember the last time the Downloading page got an update in the Steam client, but I’ve got to say this one looks the part. I didn’t read the update notes, but launched Steam a few minutes ago and was welcomed to this new, beautified layout. I like it more than the old one.
I’m downloading a game, Space Engineers, and there’s more information on exactly what you’re downloading now. That little info bubble beside the current download, gives you info on what content you’re downloading.
The little hamburger menu allows you drag and rearrange as you please, letting you easily select the order you want instead of having to click the Update Now button of old in just the right order. Or cancelling all, just to start the one you want first. And that little gear icon brings up the Downloads preferences window, allowing you to easily access and configure bandwidth limits, or clear the download cache, among the other things there. And once an update is complete, you can clear it by clicking the X button that is now hidden until you scroll over it. I like it.
I don’t know why I’m covering this one particular update, small as it is, but perhaps this is closer to what we will be seeing on the Steam Deck in a few months. I’ve got my reservation in, just waiting for that email that says Buy Now.
